Hooks First celebrates opening of "Shepherd's Shop"

On February 20th, 2003  First United Methodist Church in Hooks celebrated the opening of its new "Shepherd's Shop."          Located in downtown Hooks, this thrift store is a venture started by the United Methodist Women (UMW).          The store is stocked with all kinds of items from shoes and sweaters to coffee makers and computer software.  Proceeds from the store will benefit the church and her ministries.  The idea originated in a UMW meeting on a Tuesday and by the following Thursday, a building was found in the downtown shopping district.          As an added blessing, the owners of the building have donated the use of the building rent free for six-months.          They have also repaired the heating system and installed a new sink and hot-water heater.          News of the store spread quickly in the town and it was so popular, items were sold as the shelves were being stocked before the doors were open for business.          If you have any items you would like to donate to our shop, please bring them by the church office.  Or, come by and shop our wide selection of items, including: Household Goods Clothing Children's Items Kitchen Ware Furniture Hardware Books And much, much more! We are excited about this new mission outreach. It is our hope that this project will be a service not only to our church missions it will support, but also to low income families in our local community who will be able to purchase needed items at bargain prices.
